Starting Monday, September 30, 2024, Tarrant County Precinct 3, in partnership with the City of Watauga, will start the FY24 Annual Street Rehabilitation project. The selection process for the streets must consider any current or future planned underground work, including stormwater, sewer, and water infrastructure replacements. Additionally, we must work with franchise utility replacements, such as Atmos gas main replacements, that are under construction in multiple areas of the city. Once selected, in preparation for the street rehabilitation, City staff will coordinate and repair failing sidewalks, curbs, valley gutters, and drive approaches to ensure the new streets drain stormwater properly.
Tarrant County Precinct 3 works with multiple cities in repairing roads, and scheduling is completed a year in advance. The City must coordinate with multiple entities while adhering to Tarrant County’s schedule to streamline these projects, which may interfere with local events. The City of Watauga and Tarrant County have always prioritized the safety of residents and eagerly work with various requests to ease frustration while completing the work.
The following streets are being rehabilitated during the Maintenance Program. This program is funded by Certificates of Obligation:
1. Whispering Lane from Maurie to Stardust. Construction starts September 30, 2024.
2. Bowling Drive from Whitley Rd to Shipp. Tentative start October 14, 2024.
3. Kennedy Street from Patsy to Storm Drive. Tentative start October 28, 2024.
4. Lara Lane from Bursey Rd to Fairview. Tentative start November 11, 2024.
Whispering Lane construction will affect Grace E. Hardeman Elementary. City staff met with BISD staff and have a plan to ease congestion for parents and staff. If any changes occur, the graphic will be updated. Detailed information will be provided to parents by BISD. (Graphic Below)
All residents directly affected will be given updated written notice of construction. The road will be closed to thru traffic. If you have concerns or questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 817-514-5806.
We appreciate Commissioner Gary Fickes and his team from Precinct 3 for their efforts to provide the citizens of Precinct 3 with quality roads at an affordable cost. The partnership saves the citizens of Watauga a significant portion of the construction cost.
