In New Delhi, the Ministry of Heavy Industries convened a meeting to fine-tune its ₹500 crore e-truck subsidy under the PM E-drive scheme. The agenda included finalizing per-vehicle support and setting two-year rollout goals for e-trucks.
Kamran Rizvi, Secretary of the Ministry, emphasized the importance of ramping up domestic production to reduce reliance on imports. “India must move beyond being an assembly hub,” he noted, adding that the ministry is crafting a phased manufacturing plan (PMP) based on industry feedback. Acknowledging manufacturers’ concerns over localization deadlines, Rizvi assured them that practical, industry-aligned targets would be set.
The e-truck initiative is part of a broader ₹10,900 crore effort to promote electric mobility, targeting buses, ambulances, and two-wheelers as India works toward 30% EV adoption by 2030.
