Ammann is innovating for a sustainable and future-ready construction
Mr. Dheeraj Panda, Managing Director stated, Ammann showcased its cutting-edge solutions, including BS5/CEV5 compliant equipment, digital innovations, and sustainable technologies. With customized products and skilled workforce initiatives, Ammann is shaping India’s infrastructure growth while supporting the Vikshit Bharat 2047 vision.
What solutions were highlights and product showcased at Bauma 2024 event?
We displayed our full range of products, including compactors, pavers, the Apollo series, the Ammann ABG series, concrete equipment, and asphalt plants. We also showcased BS5 and CEV5-compliant equipment for compactors and pavers. Two special products, the Ammann ABG 7920, a 10-meter paver, and the SuperTech 130, a 130 TPH asphalt plant, were also launched. These launches align with Ammann’s commitment to innovation.
We launched the 5 series, which includes BS5 or CEV5-compliant versions of all our road equipment. This is in preparation for the upcoming emission changes.
In addition to the equipment, we showcased IoT solutions, the Apollo mix master, AS1 software solutions, spare parts, and our annual maintenance contract solutions. This event provided an excellent opportunity to showcase Ammann’s complete range of asphalt, concrete, and compaction equipment to our customers, vendors, and stakeholders.
What key features differentiate your newly launched equipment from previous ones?
Let us start with the asphalt plant. The SuperTech 130 is a state-of-the-art batch mix plant. While typical plant capacities in India are 120 TPH or 140 TPH, we recognized the need for a 130 TPH plant based on customer feedback.
To differentiate this plant, we have incorporated several features that improve its performance and efficiency. First, the low-pressure burner improves fuel efficiency compared to standard high-pressure burners. Additionally, the insulated drums enhance heat retention, leading to better overall efficiency. Finally, inclusion of variable frequency drives allows for precise control and optimization of energy consumption, making the plant both cost-effective and environmentally friendly.
For concrete machinery, we utilize ALBA technology, a unique spiral mixing technology that enhances efficiency and reduces cycle time.
We offer a comprehensive range of compaction equipment, including LTRs, HDRs, heavy tandem rollers, light tandem rollers, and soil compactors—a range that many competitors do not offer. In terms of paving technology, we provide a complete solution, from small 5-meter wheel pavers to 13-meter track pavers used for national highways and expressways.
What opportunities do you see for these plants to be customized?
Compactors generally have standard configurations. However, asphalt plants, concrete plants, and pavers are highly customizable. For example, asphalt plants can be adapted for various recipes, including those that incorporated recycled aggregates to promote sustainability.
How is Ammann positioning itself to balance the demand for mid-segment plants and the growing trend toward larger capacity plants in the Indian market?
While the industry is moving towards higher capacities, the Indian market currently has a strong demand for mid-segment plants (120-140 TPH). We are strategically positioned to cater to this segment while preparing for future demand for larger-capacity plants. The highest capacity we produce at our Buzhardt facility is 260 TPH. We also export to markets in the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America.
We are focusing on higher capacity plants, leveraging the Elba technology. We are also expanding our offerings to include stationary and mobile pumps.
How is the acquisition of Volvo’s paving business progressing?
The acquisition has integrated Volvo’s technology into our product line. We are transitioning from the Ammann AFT 500 series to the 5320/5420 series, leveraging Volvo’s technology while maintaining the Apollo series for specific market segments.
The Apollo series will continue to cater to specific market segments like PMJSY jobs and rural roads. In contrast, the Ammann AVG series, incorporating Volvo technology, will offer a wider range of paving widths, from 7 meters to 13 meters.
How is Ammann leveraging digitalization and automation in sustainable construction?
All our plants and machinery are IoT-enabled, allowing for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and data-driven decision-making. We are developing AI-powered solutions for customer management, maintenance scheduling, and plant optimization. Furthermore, we are developing an electric paver, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable solutions.
How is Ammann addressing the need for skilled operators?
We operate the Ammann Academy, which provides regular training programs for operators on various equipment, ensuring they can effectively utilize the advanced technology incorporated into our machines. We are not only skilling them to operate our products but also cater to our customer base across the country, and boost ease of use and accessibility to after-sales.
How is Ammann contributing to the vision of Vikshit Bharat 2047?
We are committed to this vision by:
Localizing production: Manufacturing a significant portion of our equipment in India. We are also keeping India’s growing infrastructure needs as well as the end user in mind.
Promoting sustainability: Developing environmentally friendly solutions, such as hydrogen-compatible burners and electric pavers.
Supporting skilled workforce development: Through our training programs.
This comprehensive overview highlights Ammann’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction, positioning the company as a key player in shaping the future of India’s construction landscape.
What are your expectations for the construction market in 2025?
We anticipate a positive outlook for 2025 with a projected GDP growth of 6.5-7%. With the higher budget allocation towards infrastructure Y-o-Y as well as the growing focus on the construction on multi-lane highways, we are planning our production and capacity to meet this demand. We aim to maintain our market leadership in pavers and asphalt plants and increase our market share in the compaction segment.
