Mitsubishi Shipbuilding, part of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) Group, recently christened and launched the TRANS HARMONY EMERALD, an LNG-powered roll-on/roll-off (RO/RO) vessel built for Toyofuji Shipping Co., Ltd. The ceremony took place at the Enoura Plant of MHI’s Shimonoseki Shipyard in Yamaguchi Prefecture. The ship will be delivered in June 2025 after outfitting and sea trials and will operate on shipping routes across Asia.
At 195 meters long and 30.6 meters wide, the vessel has a gross tonnage of approximately 49,500 and can carry up to 3,000 passenger cars simultaneously. Equipped with dual-fuel engines capable of running on LNG or diesel, the TRANS HARMONY EMERALD cuts CO2 emissions by over 25% compared to conventional fuel-oil-powered ships and reduces sulfur oxide emissions to nearly zero, significantly lowering its environmental impact.
The first vessel in this series, TRANS HARMONY GREEN, was christened earlier this year and is slated for delivery in January 2025.
This project aligns with MHI Group’s commitment to advancing energy transition and achieving carbon neutrality. Mitsubishi Shipbuilding continues to innovate, focusing on creating sustainable solutions for the maritime industry by developing vessels that combine exceptional operational efficiency with reduced environmental footprints.
